107. july, july.
i went to work this morning, but the drive i needed to perform the essential functions of my job were still like, meh, we're gonna stay down again today even though you only have one more day of work after this. then my breakfast was moldy.
the universe was all: go back home for awhile, jc. it's nice there.
so i did. instant success!
there was a package waiting for me, i watched several episodes of veronica mars, exercised, and made some packing strides. i also took a walk this evening and it was breezy and warm.
and the people of the world were happy, and it was good.

101. cheese it.
a bright spot about working on fridays is that sometimes (this time, anyway) there are piles of surprise pizza brought in for the whole office and placed right next to you:
and then it takes over your desk!

99. treasures, one.
as i am beginning to clean up and pack my home of two years, i am finding some interesting and memory inducing items.
i do not have fancy, expensive things, but i do have a lot of paper, scraps, and oddities.
apartment treasures, reveal yourselves!

86. sirens.
today was a funny day.
i woke at 6:00 am to the voices of men shouting, urgently. my windows were open and the neighbor in the house next door was being taken away via stretcher down their outside steps. he must not have been responding favorably (we're not going to hurt you. we're not going to hurt you. we're almost to the bottom). i slept a little more, the sounds of storms and rain twisting their way into my dreams. i made a late breakfast by lamplight- the sky so dark it felt like evening, but in a comforting way, in a way that's like a blanket tucked tight around your toes.
at work, the overhead lights weren't working. we have an extra book cart in our workspace right now, so tightly packed into the desk area that scooting one's chair requires shifting of walls. a play pen of old books on rusty wheels. dim, dusty. some items wrapped in paper and tied with supportive strings. i used the desk lamp until the clouds cleared, making me wonder how i'll feel when the flourescents are repaired.
tonight the tornado sirens went off and i debated traveling to the basement. you have to go outside to get down there, past the overflowing gutter and sinking mud. i watched the trees out my window and thought about how quickly they could crash through, how much they were moving already. i placed a stool in my closet and then thought better. i've never been in the basement before but it's about what you'd expect: dirty, full of stuff no one owns, and former home to an opossum who sneaked in through the window. i talked to one of my neighbors whom i've never met. she had her child, a laundry basket, and the same name as me.

72. hold yo ground.
sore throat, stuffy face, busy mind.
had to miss the edible books festival and helping out at a stop-motion workshop with kids.
bummer.
the doctor at the health center gave me a bag of drugs and gatorade and was excited that we had the same birthday (capricorns have to stick together).
dreaming healthy thoughts...

69. give us this day our daily diet coke.
the pop culture conference is just a few weeks away and so i have finally begun assembling my presentation.
it is bringing back nice memories of frequent outbursts of laughter in our cataloging office during that project, especially last spring when the items in the collection took particularly weird turns on a daily basis.
i'm happy to continue sharing these things with a small pocket of the world this month.
in other news, my mom adopted a 9-year-old dog today.
she said that when his ears flop behind his head, he looks like dobby the house elf.
i tried removing his red eye with photo editing software, but it made him look like he had no soul or pupils. rock on, pup.

22. friday on my mind.
today was everything a day off from class and work should be:
-i slept until 9:00, made breakfast, and then trained a very nice new volunteer at the library. we helped a dozen or so library patrons with computer issues.
-i met a new friend for tea and we talked for 2.5 hours with ease.
-i cooked kale and tofurkey sausage and rice and red pepper for dinner, with a clementine for dessert.
now a clean apartment + the kinks. i feel refreshed and warm.
